Like every other government operation in Detroit, 36th District Court is facing tough times.

Elisha Anderson of the Detroit Free Press reports that the court is trying to avert layoffs of 80 union and nonunion employees in early July through cost saving measures.

The Freep reports those possible measures include 10% wage concessions, unpaid holidays and changes to health care.

Last month, the National Center for State Courts issued a report that said the city-financed court is projected to exceed its $31-million budget by $4.5 million by the end of the fiscal year, June 30.
