Detroit Police Chief James Craig continues dismantling the policies of his predecessor Ralph Godbee. This time, he's returning officers to eight-hour shifts for the first time in a year.
WDIV: The 8-hour shifts will begin Oct. 14, 2013. The Detroit Police Department also will operate what will be called a 10-hour "power shift."
The power shift will overlap two other shifts. Officers will have the opportunity to request working the 10-hour shift.
Godbee had put the department on a 12-hour shift schedule in 2012 despite in an effort to have more officers on the street in the face of the city's budget crisis.
