Two firefighters were hospitalized Wednesday with closed-head injuries after bricks from a burning building fell on them, a fire official told The Detroit News.

Fox 2 Detroit said two additional firefighters suffered lesser injuries. They were not specified.

Fire crews arrived before 8 p.m. at the Ideal Market Liquor store at the northwest corner of Chene and East Ferry, near the I-75 and I-94 intersection.  Smoke from the two-story building  could be seen for miles. The fire eventually went to two alarms.

A wall from the building collapsed on the men, causing neck and head injuries to both firefighters, said fire Capt. Dale Bradley. One firefighter also had a right ankle fracture, Bradley said. They were rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Falling bricks at a 2010 fire on E. Jefferson injured six Detroit firefighters, who sustained broken bones, head wounds and spinal-cord injuries. One of the injured, Brendan (Doogie) Milewski, was featured in "BURN," the award-winning documentary as he underwent rehabilitation for his partial paralysis.
