George Jackson has resigned from the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, Amy Haimerl reports in Crain's Detroit Business.

Jackson, who ran the agency for 12 years, will remain with the economic development group as the president and CEO until March 31, when he will leave to form his own consulting firm.

His last big project is shepherding the proposed $650 million Red Wings arena and entertainment district through the political process.

Jackson, 61, said his resignation had nothing to do with Mayor Mike Duggan appointing F. Thomas Lewand as the city's group executive for jobs and economic growth.

When he appointed Lewand, Duggan said, “I do not believe we've had the kind of coordination between city government and the DEGC in recent years that there has been at different times.”
