Less is better. That's what city officials would like some folks to believe when it comes to tightening the belt. Let's concede that less is better when we're talking about crime or school dropout rates, not public transportation.

Starting Saturday, Detroit will change its bus service as part of a cost-cutting effort that will "improve" the transportation system, WDIV notes on its website. Yes, some routes will improve and run every 15 minutes. Others will run less frequently. Tough luck if you don't live along one of the busier routes.

Go to other cities like D.C. and Seattle and New York and you'll see what it means to have public transportation. Detroit needs to jump into the 21st Century.
