Now here's some welcome news for Detroiters.
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin on Wednesday announced that the Detroit Fire Department will get a $24 million grant to hire 150 firefighters.
The funds will come from a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program.
"This is another major investment in the City of Detroit that will go a long way in helping the fire department hire additional firefighters to protect the public," Stabenow said in a statement. " Making sure our first responders have the resources they need is exactly the kind of support that will help Detroit's continued revitalization."
Senator Levin issued a statement saying: "There is no more important task that caring for our people in times of emergency. This federal support will make a significant difference for the safety and security of the people of Detroit."
