Kurt Metzger, who stepped down as the head of Data Driven Detroit last week, announced that he's running for mayor of Pleasant Ridge.

"I have lived in Pleasant Ridge for 26 years," Metzger wrote, announcing his campaign via Facebook. "Its half square mile of land and 2,544 residents (2012 estimate) lie at the crossroads of SE Michigan - straddling Woodward Ave. from 9 1/2 Mile to I-696. The future connectivity of SE Michigan runs through PR and I want our city to be at the table."

Data Driven Detroit, which Metzger founded in 2008, attempts to "illustrate complex relationships by combining different datasets to reveal the true stores of our regions, cities and blocks." Metzger will retain the title Director Emeritus at D3 and says he plans to continue is consulting business as he campaigns for this part-time office.

The current mayor of Pleasant Ridge, Ralph Castelli, has held that office since 1993.
