The big guys don't like to be messed with. Bobbie Dufresne of Oakland Township is learning that.
Dufresne, a beekeeper, started a skin care line, Bobbie Bee Skin Care, complete with a logo she says is her creation, Fox 2 reports. The product has a logo named Bobbie Bee.
When the giant company Burt's Bees of Oakland, Calif., found out, its lawyers sent a cease-and-desist order claiming her business name is too similar and causes customer confusion with their product. A lawsuit filed this month claims trademark infringement.
Dufresne tells Fox 2:
"They don't own the word 'bee'. Not to mention she's a cartoon, it's not Bobbie's Bees it's Bobbie Bee."
She says she only sells her product online and at shows, not at stores.
"It's mean. Stop beating up on the little guy," says Dufresne. She adds, "This is what the American dream is all about."
