Secretary of State documents reveal City Councilman George Cushingberry does not have a valid driver's license. One of the reasons his license was suspended is because he has racked up so many parking tickets on the city of Detroit. He owes the bankrupt city big money, reports Hank Winchester on WDIV-TV.

Cushingberry didn't answer his phone or door when the Defenders reached out to him for comment. His attorney did comment.

"It always behooves the process for the individual to make statements at the appropriate time and that doesn't frustrate or bring a lack of integrity to this individual by any stretch," said Cushingberry's attorney, Todd Russell Perkins.

Detroit Police are investigating why Cushingberry received only a ticket for improper signlaing after cops stopped him last week and found an empty bottle of alcohol in the car and smelled marijuana.

Fox 2 reports Cushingberry's former 3,500-square-foot house on the 8000 block of Marygrove has been vacant for months. The side is missing and vandals have tried to break in.

"The house is a mess. It's nothing in there. It's a shell," says Herbert Russell, Cushingberry's neighbor and Marygrove block club president. "There's no countertops; there's no sinks; there's no toilets."

He says the City Council President Pro Tem moved out after winning the election and took everything with him.

It was unclear from the report whether Cushingberry took all the fixtures with him. He apparently lost the house in his bankruptcy, in which he lost other real estate after racking up more than $500,000 in debt. The financial problems were first reported by Motor City Muckraker.
