Christine Beatty's debt to society has been paid, but she still owes Detroit some cash.

Beatty was released from her probation at the end of last year when her sentence expired. However, she still owes Detroit more than $78,000 in restitution.

While on probation, Beatty was ordered to make $500 monthly payments. Now that her probation is over, it is up to the city to collect the remainder of her restitution.

Detroit News: Beatty, who paid $500 on Jan. 16, has not worked out any payment arrangements with the city, her lawyer, Jeffrey Morganroth, said.

“Although her probation and restitution requirements have ended, and her income is modest and at times nonexistent, Christine is trying to do what she can to continue to make restitution payments on her own,” he said Wednesday.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Timothy Kenny said that while Beatty doesn't have the resources to pay off the restitution, he credited her with chipping away at the debt.
