Carl Levin Endorses Chuck Hagel's Defense Secretary Nomination

Michigan Senator Carl Levin, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, says former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel is qualified to serve as Secretary of Defense.

“Senator Hagel is well qualified to serve as secretary of defense with his broad experience in national security affairs. He was a decorated soldier and an effective member of the Senate, and he is a strong advocate for the men and women of our military.”

President Barack Obama nominated Hagel to replace outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. Hagel has come under fire from some on the right because of his alleged hostility toward Israel so the support of Levin, one of the nation’s most prominent Jewish politicians, is significant.
