Oakland County Executive Brooks Patterson isn't keen on current plan to regionalize the Detroit Water & Sewerage Department, which provides water to most metro Detroit communities. Patterson believes the deal could lead to significant rate increases.
Detroit Free Press: In an interview after a panel discussion at the event, Patterson did not rule out agreeing to a deal if the terms are right, as he once finally agreed to terms for a Cobo Center regional authority after months of opposition.
But he said his leadership team has still not received adequate financial data from Detroit emergency manager Kevyn Orr’s restructuring advisers, saying the most recent data received from Orr’s team was three years old.
Under a proposal floated by Orr, Detroit would lease DWSD assets to an independent regional authority for roughly $47 million annually over a 40-year period.
Orr is expected to submit a formal proposal to the bankruptcy court by March 1.
