A born-again Walmart has popped up in Warren.
The company had closed its store in 2003 at the same location at 12 Mile and Van Dyke, but opened this week as an expanded 24-hour supercenter, Sherri Welch of Crain's Detroit Business reports.
The Warren store had closed in 2003 after Walmart opened a supercenter two miles north in Sterling Heights, Crain's reports.
The closing in 2003 sparked some controversy.
Crain's reports that Walmart held on to the lease of the vacant store, angering Warren Mayor James Fouts, who complained the company was preventing other businesses from opening at the location.
The new store will create 300 full-and-part time jobs. -- A.L.
