The city of Detroit is bankrupt. The streetlights don't work. The police take forever to respond to calls. Taxes are unusually high. Residents are leaving for the suburbs as fast as they can. The real unemployment rate could be as high as 50%. But, if you're connected, you can probably get a lucrative taxpayer-funded consulting contract or massive tax break because that's how "business" gets done in Detroit. Also, even the shiny new ambulances don't really work so well.

So it should come as no surprise that most Detroiters think the people running things are awful in every way.

Detroit Free Press: 75% gave Snyder a negative rating; 22% gave him a positive rating; 3% were undecided.

85% gave Bing a negative rating; 14% gave him a positive rating; 1% were undecided.

62% gave Orr a negative rating; 23% gave him a positive rating; 15% were undecided.

The Detroit City Council took the biggest hit, with 86% giving it a negative rating; 10% gave it a positive rating; 4% were undecided.

Just 36% of Detroiters surveyed think the city is heading in the right direction, according to the Detroit Free Press/WXYZ poll. Clearly, these people don't understand that Detroit is a "land of opportunity" with its very own "innovation district." It's like, if only these people would stop being lazy and invent their own smartphone apps, maybe they wouldn't be so Debby Downer about Detroit.
