A 9-year-old boy was fatally shot Monday night in the face on Detroit's east side in what appears to be an accident, WXYZ reports.
Jane Park of WXYZ reports that authorities say the stepfather left the house for a few minutes, and came home and found that his stepson had been shot. He called 911. The incident happened shortly before 9 p.m. in the 11200 block of Roxbury.
The shooting underscores the pervasiveness of guns in the city, and how too many are left unsecured.
The Detroit News reports that the nine-year old boy and three teenagers -- 17, 14 and 13 -- were inside the home at the time of the shooting, and there were apparently no adults around..
A shotgun was recovered inside.
Investigators were trying to determine what happened.
